First of all, The Beatles: Rock Band isn't a Guitar Hero game, it's a Rock Band game. They're competing games with different set lists but similar gameplay (and various partisans are going to expound on other differences below this post, so I won't bother). Both consoles can play both games, though, so it doesn't really change your question. I'd probably think beyond just this one game and ask yourself what other games your son is going to play; see which of those are Wii- or Xbox 360-exclusive. (Well, not necessarily Xbox 360-exclusive per se; many games are on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3, but for your purposes they're Xbox 360-exclusive.) I was actually making a similar choice myself recently and ended up going with the Xbox 360 for its superior array of downloadable games and an emphasis on more "serious" titles, but it all depends on your own personal situation.

The Xbox. It has always had full multiplayer, full downloadable songs, and better quality. It shouldn't matter for this one, but there is no way the Xbox version would be "gimped", whereas Wii versions have been in the past.

I have a Nintendo Wii and own Rockband 2, made the mistake of buying Guitar Hero World Tour (game only) because EVERYONE was telling me that the instrument accessories are compatible between the 2 games. Well they aren't, not on the Wii anyway. They are definitely compatible on the Xbox 360, not sure about PS3, but definitely NOT on the Wii. So if you're planning on buying your kid any guitar hero games and actually EXPECT them to play, go with the Xbox 360.
